Students in American Life II (HIS 107) and Mastering the Academic Environment (UNC 100) will explore the basis of all that is noble and tragic in both American development and themselves. As America threw off the legacy of slavery and the robber barons and developed into an important world power, so too will the student in UNC 100 dispense with the false trappings that restrain their independence and learn how to flourish as a person. The courses will cross-pollinate. As students understand how American culture developed its philisophical, political and cultural heritage those themes will be applied to the study of themselves so that they too can develop the aptitudes and competencies that lead to success in college, and in life.
