The Learning Community Program at Buffalo State is being reimagined. Starting fall 2017, learning communities will consist of three courses that cover the entire first year. A cohort of students will take two courses in common during their first semester and one common course in the spring semester. Students who choose to participate in learning communities reap multiple benefits. Learning community students have a higher GPA than their peers, are more connected to the college and their classmates, are retained at a higher rate, feel closer to faculty, and make a smoother transition to college.
A Bengal Community consists of a group of students and their professors exploring a common theme. These learning communities are open to all students who want to get the most out of the Buffalo State experience.
