This learning community explores the ethics of gender relations in the arts, social sciences, philosophy and popular culture. What does it mean to be a woman or a man? How many genders are there? Does gender matter? Do principles of respect and fairness require blindness or an appreciation of gender difference? How do portrayals in the arts and popular culture shape our experiences in employment, education and romance? We will consider the sexual objectification of women and narrow standards of masculinity as well as the extent to which individuals have an obligation to confront such injustices and the ways telling the story of our lives requires attending to our gendered existence.
