Critical Youth Advocacy (C-YA)

Ordinary citizens create change for the public good every day. Critical Youth Advocacy (C-YA) Learning Community is designed to provide students with opportunities to explore and practice work for the public good. Buffalo State undergraduates will participate in community, organizing in a public school setting while examining how urban youth, working through social, identity and personal differences, create solutions to common problems for a more socially just world.

C-YA will benefit students who:

  • Want to work with urban youth in grades 5th-12th on relevant issues
  • Want to have direct involvement in urban schools through field experiences
  • Want to make a difference in the lives of urban youth and their communities

In the C-YA Learning Community Students Will:

  • Apply lessons learned in a public school setting
  • Gain service-learning (first hand experience) helping youth address a social problem
  • Speak to local and national stakeholders and decision makers
  • Co-curricular learning experiences will include a trip to Washington, DC with a tour of the White House. Space is limited. Register for Orientation and indicate the C-YA Learning Community as your first preference.
