Irene Sipos is a native Buffalonian who completed her Masters in American Literature at the State University of New York at Buffalo under Robert Creeley and Leslie Fiedler. Her work has appeared numerous times in the Buffalo News and in publications including Artvoice, Lilith Magazine, The Comstock Review, Buffalo Book of Poetry and Buffalo Poets Against War. Irene’s poem “Thank You, Mr. Burchfield” appeared in the 2009 Burchfield Penney Art Center Newsletter commemorating the opening of the new gallery. She won first place in the 2011 Buffalo Boom Days Poetry Contest. Also in 2011 Irene served on the Planning Committee for the Buffalo State site of 100,000 Poets for Change, a global poetry event. In 2012, she and colleague Lisa Forrest, in recognition of Buffalo State’s Year of the City, organized a series of onsite workshops, called "The Olmsted Parks Poetry Project: Exploring the Poetic Nature of Public Spaces", dedicated to Frederick Law iOlmsted. Irene is a full-time lecturer in the College Writing Program at Buffalo State where she has also taught Introduction to Poetry and led several poetry workshops through the Rooftop Poetry Club of which she is a co-founder.
